deviantTHUMBS:TINY v7 by rotane deviantTHUMBS:TINY v7 by rotane
deviantTHUMBS:TINY – A style that makes the new huge thumbnails small (like they used to)

FEATURES:

This Style makes the new huge thumbnails small again and less "schizophrenic": It removes the light background on all thumbs, and tweaks a few other things (Verdana instead of Trebuchet, hover effects, margins and paddings, and the like).

NOTES:
  • Special feature:
Switch to Wall View and have everything left aligned.
Switch to Grid View and have everything centered.
  • Film thumbs and Collection/Gallery thumbs are still not perfectly styled, but 100% usable.
  • This style might interfere somewhat with custom Gallery skins, since it changes the deviation title and links.

RELEASE HISTORY:
  • v0.1 (August 25, 2012): Initial release of the new huge thumbnails.
  • v0.1-1 (August 25, 2012): Fix for Lit and Film thumbs.
  • v0.2 (August 25, 2012): Lit thumbs bugfixes again. (Did dA change something?)
  • v0.3 (September 1, 2012): dA just updated the new huge thumbs (that light background is even lighter; but more importantly: panorama thumbs are fixed), so this update takes this into account.
Also: Proper support for deviations in Storage and Mature Content.
  • v0.4 (September 7, 2012): Bugfix for recent code-update. Thanks for all your reports!
  • v0.4-1 (September 7, 2012): Lit tags are back.
  • v0.4-2 (September 7, 2012): Bugfixes for Grid and Wall views, and panorama thumbs.
  • v0.4-3 (September 7, 2012): Bugfix for panorama/portrait thumbs again. (Really, dA? Again? This is getting tiresome.)
  • v0.4-4 (September 14, 2012): Bugfix for collection/gallery thumbs.
  • v0.5 (October 23, 2012): Bugfix for group galleries' "more" link; small bugfix to lit/journal thumbs.
  • v0.5-1 (March 16, 2013): Bugfix for group galleries' main pages. (Thanks again Kitsunechann for the heads-up!)
  • v0.6 (May 17, 2013): Better way of dealing with shadow-overflow of book-ends. (Which means: better compatibility with Gallery CSS.)
  • v0.7 (August 13, 2013): Bugfix for some MLT pages. (Thanks Arisu-Ami-Chan for the heads-up.)
  • v0.7-1 (December 13, 2013): Bugfix for wide deviation titles. (Thanks FuryTigresse for the heads-up.)
  • v0.7-2 (June 24, 2014): Removed Mozilla-specific values.

Attention: use either this style OR deviantTHUMBS:HUGE OR deviantTHUMBS:GRID!

Not on my end. As always, be sure to update to the latest version (v0.7-1). If that doesn't work, uninstall and re-install the style. If that still doesn't work, please send me a screenshot of the page where it's off.

No worries, a link is fine :)
It looks to me as if the style simply isn't active. Be sure you don't have it disabled!

Well, then i'm sorry to say, i can't think of anything else. I've tested it in 2 browsers, with 2 different accounts, and it's all working as it should.

Found the solution, although I'm still not entirely sure what was wrong or what I did to fix it. The styles were turned on, but they weren't turned on. So instead of just turning them on, I also had to turn them on. It sounds confusing, but that's only because it is confusing.

There wouldn't be any chance of getting rid of the big ugly shadowy cutoff lines on overlong and overtall thumbnails and replacing them with whatever they looked like before as well, would there?
Reply
:iconrotane:
rotane Featured By Owner Dec 15, 2013   General Artist
Well, sort of. You see, there were no cutoffs before – the old overlong and overtall thumbs were just really really tiny. There is of course the possibility to hide these cutoffs entirely, but then you wouldn't know you're looking at an overlong or overtall deviation anymore.

To do that, you'll have to edit the style and add these 2 lines of code at the very end (if you're using Firefox, put it before the trailing "}"):
#deviantART-v7 .tt-fh.crop-h a.thumb:after,
#deviantART-v7 .tt-fh.crop-w .tt-bookendw { display: none !important; }

(Heads-up: if you have set your browser to auto-update your styles (which is the default), any new version of my style that i'll publish will overwrite any changes you make.)

Ah, wonderful. I'm so glad that people like you have taken it upon them selves to fix what the devs broke.

Hello, I've been using this style for a long time, and I'm very grateful to you for making it! However, I just noticed a bug, I don't know if it was there yesterday or not, I've just noticed it.

Here's a screenshot of the bug: fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/201…

As you can see, the titles touch each other. Think it's fixable? Thanks in advance!

Yup, this is definitely a new bug, probably something on deviantART's end that got changed quite recently. I've issued a quick fix that just cuts off extra long deviation titles. It's rather crude, but should do the trick. Thanks for the heads up!

For now, yes. :)  There's definitely something wrong with the galleries (look at this screenie, with all styles turned off), so things might change again at a moment's notice. Feel free to tell me again if you notice something.

~Cup-of-Javo is right, I recently updated it (three fifteen am Sunday morning) and was checking the MLT gallery for a reference picture for a thing I was working on and it seems that dA changed their script over here and the add-on stopped working. I apologize if this has been pointed out before, but I'm certain you could use more information.

I'm using the latest version of Chrome, most recent tinythumbs update and the big thumbs are absolutely HORRID, as I use a notebook computer, and really do love the thumbs to be small. (takes much less time to load than these ugly huge ones).

Do you have any advice or suggestions?

Hey! I just checked the style in Chrome (i'm using Firefox myself), but can't see anything wrong with it on a MLT page that i just randomly picked. So, here's what we can do: First, are you definitely running the latest version? (I don't know if you can see it in Chrome, but it's v0.6 from May 17, 2013.) Secondly, be sure no other styles are currently active, that could interfere with it. If there are, just disable them for the moment to check. If all this doesn't help, try deleting the style and re-downloading it. If the error is still there, could you please upload me a screenshot, including the URL of the page you're looking at? That would help a lot.

(Btw, the tiny thumbs are the same images as the big ones, in terms of file size; so loading times are exactly the same. My style merely shrinks them down after they're being downloaded ;))

My mistake, actually. With the newest dA addition, the buttons don't carry over to the MLT page I was using at the time: www.deviantart.com/morelikethi… <-- I was using this at the time, and large thumbnails are there and I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. Does the Tiny Thumbs style not affect MLT?

Odd. It seems like with my style active you only get to see one thumb per artist, in this specific view. (Sidenote: some of these artists only have one result to begin with, even with my style deactivated, so this one is on deviantART.) That's good to know regardless, and i will look into it. And yes, my style definitely does affect MLT; as it should!

Thanks for the report, i hope i find some time to check it out some time this week.

PS: I'm a guy ;)

Totally up to date with Chrome: Version 28.0.1500.95

Most of the other styles I have active are actually yours, sir/ma'am. I don't know why it's being weird like this...

BUT I may have figured it out with dA's new button addition's on the front page. I apologize for bothering you!

Let me know if you need a screenshot :3

Hm, i can't seem to detect any glitches there, regardless of how large or small i resize my browser window. Are you sure you're having the current version? It's 0.5-1 from March 16.

Also, and this could just be a weird coincidence, I checked it on my other account and it did not do this at all. The only differences I can think of between the accounts are that this one (with the problems) is a premium and the other is not. Very strange.

Very odd. The bug on your screenshots is exactly the one that i tried fixed with the latest version. And i still can't reproduce this on my end; and i tried both Firefox and Chrome, both with and without premium. And i just noticed you can't see the version history in Chrome (the way Stylish is made); so for now i can only suggest you remove the style completely and then go to the style homepage and install it again from fresh. Sorry that i don't have anything else for you at the moment…

Oh, i see what's going on: There's a second row of thumbs that are cut off, and the paging buttons are concealed by that second row. I never noticed this, since it only happens with smaller screen/browser window sizes. Thanks for the heads up, i'll see wat i can do!

Btw, it seems like you're using an older version of the skin anyway – as is evident by the one panorama thumb (the one called "100 OC Challenge 1-5"). The "book ends" should neatly allign with the thumb. I've fixed this in one of the latest versions of the skin. Make sure you let Chrome update it.

Hello! Thank you SO much for making these! As soon as I found out that they existed, I went back to my good ol' small thumbnails and never looked back!

Though I'm not sure if it's just me, or if it's time for another bugfix, but...the thumbnails don't work anymore. They seem to have gone back to their usual default largeness despite the fact that the script is still turned on otherwise. :(

Thanks for the report, but I cannot confirm this – it works fine on my end (both Firefox and Chrome). Make sure you're having the current version (v0.5), and if you do, you could try removing the skin and re-installing it. I will keep an eye open though…

 Yup! Fortunately, there's nothing important on the far right, so I never do any scrolling. What is important is the Help/FAQ button at the bottom of the drop-down menu on the DeviantART button. That menu is so long in comparison to my screen, I have to scroll down to find it. The trick is scrolling without loosing the menu and having to start over. Fortunately, I'm talented and determined. :giggle:
